Station History

Call sign: KJCN‑TV (UHF 27) • Studios: 4th & Greeley • Transmitter: Lakeview Hill

Launched September 6, 1991 as an independent community news service. Adopted the Channel 27 News identity in 1993 alongside a graphics refresh featuring chrome gradients and the famous diagonal grid. The Late Edition 10PM broadcast was introduced in 1994, known for its earnest anchor banter and aggressively teal weather maps.

In 1998 KJCN briefly affiliated with the short‑lived Heartland Network, adding national cut‑ins and an over‑caffeinated theme package. Budget cuts in 2001 led to a simplified set and the beloved paper‑laminated lower thirds. The newsroom signed off in June 2003 after the parent company merged and consolidated operations to a neighboring market.

Standard Sign‑Off (2003)
“This concludes our broadcast day. KJCN‑TV, Channel 27, operated by Westfield Broadcast Group, transmitting from Lakeview Hill at an effective radiated power of 1,200 kilowatts…”
